Family Life Center
The Family Life Center The City Mission has built an 18,000 square foot Family Life Center adjacent to our present campus with capacity for thirty-seven women and children. A main feature of this handicapped accessible facility is ten “apartment” units. These apartments provide privacy for families of various sizes in the midst of a community setting. The Family Life Center provides long-term (one year) residence and training for women and their children. It also houses an emergency shelter for women.
The children who find shelter at the Family Life Center receive an abundance of nurturing and mentoring. They discover joy in the midst of their hard lives. The ground floor of the Family Life Center offers a variety of programs for residents, as well as other participants in the overall ministries of City Mission. These programs include: Life-Skills Training Center City Mission is dedicated to providing comprehensive life-skills training for our residents and individuals from the community. The Life-skills Training Center offers classes in such areas as budgeting, parenting, health care, and workplace etiquette. Also, because volunteers play such a crucial role in our ministry, the center also serves as a volunteer work site and training area.
Home Management Center The Home Management Center is a fully-equipped kitchen that will provide hands-on training in preparing nutritious and affordable meals. Students will also receive training in safe food handling procedures, together with other household skills. Innovative Learning & Career Center An expanded and enhanced Innovative Learning & Career Center for men, women, and children offers computer based academic tutorials through 7 computer work stations. Provides classes in literacy, budgeting, GED preparation, and career planning. The Child Learning Program uses computers and tutors to help children succeed in school, and to develop a love for learning. ”Phoebe's Closet” Helps women to dress their best for less. This clothing boutique offers free business and casual clothing, as well as practical tips for dressing well without spending a lot of money. "Phoebe's Closet" is a partnership project with City Mission Thrift Stores.
